Below you will find policy and guidelines on various subjects. If you are referring to these because you have specific concerns rather than a general interest, please note your concerns to the appropriate club official.

Equity Policy Statement

Destination Judo

  • This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following definition of sports equity.

Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

  • The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of the sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
  • All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.
  • The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously according to club disciplinary procedure.

Code of Conduct for Club Officials, Volunteers

The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All volunteers must:-

  • Consider the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of performance.
  • Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
  • Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play).
  • Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Follow all guidelines laid down by the nation governing body and the club.
  • Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.
  • Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.
  • Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances.
  • Encourage performers to value their performances and not just the results.

Code of Conduct for Parents and Guardians

  • Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
  • Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
  •  Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results
  • Never force your child to take part in Judo. Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
  • Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
  • Publicly accept official judgements. Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their Judo.
  • Use correct and proper language at all times

Child Protection

  • Destination Judo undertakes to work within the framework and guidelines laid down by British Judo Association in relation to Child Protection Procedures.
  • Destination Judo will work continually with the appropriate bodies to ensure that the club remains at the forefront of good practice in respect of Child Protection Policies and procedures.
  • Destination Judo upholds the principle that all children whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and or sexual identity have the right to protection from abuse to members, staff and volunteers of the Club are committed to the welfare and protection of children so that they can enjoy sporting activities in safety without fear, threat or abuse.

POLICY ON THE SECURE HANDLINE, USE, STORAGE, RETENTION AND DESCTRUCTION OF DISCLOSURE INFORMATION

POLICY STATEMENT

1. INTRODUCTION

 

The Code of Practice (‘the Code’) is published by the Scottish Ministers under section 122 of Part V of the Police Act 1997 (‘the 1997 Act’).  The Code sets out obligations for registered bodies, countersignatories and other recipients of disclosure information issued under the 1997 Act and the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 (‘the 2007 Act’).

 

2. GENERAL PRINCIPLES

 

We comply with the Code and the 1997 and 2007 Acts regarding the handlin, holding, storage, destruction and retention of disclosure information provided by Disclosure Scotland.  We comply with the Data Protection Action 1998. We will provide a copy of this policy to anyone who requests to see it.

3. USAGE

We will use disclosure information only for the purpose for which it was requested and provided. Disclosure information will not be used or disclosed in a manner incompatible with that purpose. We will not share disclosure information with a third party unless the subject has given his or her written consent and has been made aware of the purpose of the sharing.

 

4. HANDLING

We recognise that, under Section 124 of the 1997 Act and sections 66 and 67 of the 20076 Act, it is a criminal offence to disclose disclosure information to any unauthorised person.  Disclosure information is only shared with those authorised to see it in the course of their duties.  We will not disclose information provided under subsection 113B(5) of the 1997 Act, namely information which is not included in the certificate, to the subject.

5. ACCESS AND STORAGE

We do not keep disclosure information on an individual’s personnel  file.  It is kept securely, in lockable, non-portable storage container (a safe).  Access to the safe is strictly controlled and is limited to authorised, named individuals who are entitled to see such information in the course of their duties.

6. RETENTION

To comply with the 1998 Act, we do not keep disclosure information for longer than necessary.  For the19976 Act, this will be the date the relevant decision has been taken, allowing for the resolution of any disputes or complaints. For the 21007 Act this will be the date an individual ceases to do regulated work for this organisation.  We will not retain any paper or electronic image of the disclosure information. We will, however, record the date of issue, the individual’s name, the disclosure type and the purpose for which it was requested, the unique reference number of the disclosure and details of our decision.  The same conditions relating to secure storage and access apply irrespective of the period of retention.

7. DISPOSAL

We will ensure that disclosure information is destroyed in a secure manner i9e by shredding.  We will ensure that disclosure information which is awaiting destruction will not be kept in any insecure receptacle (eg unlocked cabinet).

8. UMBRELLA BODIES

Before acting as an Umbrella Body, we will take the following steps.  We will ensure that the organisation on whose behalf we are acting, complies with the Code and 1997 and 2007 Acts. We will take all reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that they will handle, use, store, retain and dispose of disclosure information in full accordance with this policy. We will also ensure that any body or individual for whom applications or requests are countersigned, has such a written policy.  If necessary, we will provide a model policy for  that body or individual to use or adapt for this purpose.
