on Wed, 06/05/2015 - 10:22

Danny Alessandro (aka Judo Dan) started judo at the age of 8. His competitive career lasted throughout his entire childhood and spilled right through his teens and into young adulthood. From a young age he earned black belt status, became a BJA National Champion and represented Team GB at the Cadet European Championships.  The main reason for his success as a judoka was the commitment that came from his father, as a result he wanted nothing more than to prove to his father that he was capable of the things that he later went on to achieve.

As time passed he became a father himself and took a

Destination Judo Coach Becomes Junior Partner

on Tue, 13/01/2015 - 14:19

Mark Poole (aka Marvellous Marv) joined the Destination Judo coaching team, as a young inspiring junior judo coach.
Marv started out as an employee who then progressed to the level of being offered a franchise which he diligently did.
Now in January 2015, following in the footsteps of both Callum and Colin Woods, we are proud to announce that he is now a junior partner in Destination Judo.
A quote from Marv: "It has been an amazing few years working as part of the Destination Judo team and I am now more motivated than ever to bring the sport of judo to as many children as possible."

FINLAY BENNETT

on Mon, 08/09/2014 - 20:25

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of judoka Finlay Bennett, who contracted meningitis in the Summer and died from complications.   Eight year old Finlay attended Destination Judo in Dunfermline.  He was a third Mon; a fine and spirited young lad, who had just been invited to join the squad.  Finlay loved his judo and we will miss him very much.

Our condolences, love and best wishes go to Finlay’s family and friends.

Destination Judo has recently collected two awards in the area of County Durham.

On July 9th, at the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, DJ coach Glynn and four players from the Sedgefield and Spennymore areas attended this social event to put on a demonstration for the people which was also attended by many other sporting clubs.

Glynn would like to emphasise how well the girls did during the demonstration, being under spot lights infront of a large audience, and would like to thank Becky Butler, Mae Bostock, Kazia Simpson and Mia Tierney for helping deliver this amazing demo.

A Wee Poem by a Young Judoka - click here

Judo is Great, Judo is Fun,

Just Flip Your Partner Over and the Job Gets Done.

We Do a Throw Called Ippon Seoi Nage,

We Always End Up Looking Taggy.

We Fall Down Flat on the Mat,

But Always has to be on Our Back.

There are lots of Different Coloured Belts,

To get Upgraded we do as we're Telt!

There is a Cup for Being Good,

If I don't get it I'll be in a Mood.

My Judo is on a Tuesday night,

We get into Grip and Learn to Fight.

We're in our bare feet, it's really Nifty,

But the Instructors Feet Smell Really Whiffy.

I love to play Jump the River,

If I Fall in I'll Start to Shiver.

Marv is Great,
